Critical Joy | Keith Hennessy / Peaches
July 27, 2016
ImPulsTanz, MQ Square, Vienna

"Starting from the workshop Critical Joy, co-led by Keith Hennessy and Peaches with an international collaborative of dance and performance artists, a series of performances were created in close encounter with painting, sculpture, dance, pop and their hybrids. Choreography, sculpture and music as expanded social practices where politics and art and party and friendship motivate action." Hennessy
Critical: Being awake to structural violence.
Joy: The secret of struggle (Alice Walker).

The performance took place as two linked events:
A series of museum performances staged throughout Vienna’s mumok (museum of contemporary art) responding to the exhibit Painting 2.0: Expression in the Information Age. Each performance was created and staged by the performers. A free public concert on a big outdoor stage in the Museum’s Quartier, directed by Peaches and Hennessy and witnessed by 3000 people. Featuring songs and performance actions by Peaches, Hennessy and the collaborating workshop artists. The event concluded in a joyous DJ set by Bhenji Ra & Casper-Malte Augusta.
